Lossy Data Lab
Visit the Lossy Data Lab at this years NYC Scope Art Fair.
Collaboration with Heliumcowboy gallery.
I teamed up with the heliumcowboy crew in New York to create a new installation / interactive artwork at the SCOPE art fair New York. Jointly we set up the Lossy Data Lab, a special art laboratory researching lossy data; what is it and where it goes. This was done through questionnaires, word association games, psychological profiling, spacial awareness tests and using cutting edge, specially designed technical equipment. Artworks based on the results of the various tests were created during the fair in our science center. Further analysis and reports will be generated following on from the involvement of the visitors to the Lab. Several lab rats did escape during the week but most were returned to their cage unharmed.

Haha, Love it, nothing like cardboard box’s to get the imagination going. I remember as a kid converting 2 massive boxes into a space ship equipped with drawn on instruments and a working black and white TV left un-tuned to get “Space dust” on its display. Unfortunately as we make consumer goods smaller and smaller people will loose the art of cardboard imagination and they will be left with plastic see-through death traps to play in, this is assuming that the plastic nightmare can even be opened as it seems increasingly difficult to open modern products!

Ha haa! Some people have too much time. I see your particle size analyser (ahem) I mean, cardboard box, turned out well. I’d love to see the scientific specs for that, perhaps a wiring diagram and maybe an explanation of why strawberries interfere with its operations?!! I do love the flow diagram that shows how you’re going to improve sales, though. I agree, the lab assistant should take a shower. But then again, if he’s going to the circus anyway, perhaps he’d better not… much better to smell of pheromones than cardboard and glue. Those animals can smell geekiness, you know.
