COLOUR BUTTER featuring JON BURGERMAN (UK)

In conjunction with the Singapore Design Festival 2007, Butter Factory is proud to present live-in person mural art by Jon Burgerman. Held on Friday, 7 th December 2007, the public is also invited to submit their photos which may be included in his wacky coluor-in muraloodle. Upon completion of mural, it will be a special colouring-in space for all to come and visit and colour in. We will document it all online and show off the images people sent in along side the doodles.

Known for his quirky human characters, the king of doodling is set to colour Singapore. Jon Burgerman expresses himself through drawing, painting, print, animation, street-art and toy design. His recent project in Derby saw him creating a large scale mural on the hoardings of a construction site of a new building. His doodles were then painted by passers by, giving them a hands-on experience. Often his works are found on paper, cardboard, canvas or walls and objects. There’s no telling where he can’t work on. His characters burst into life with dazzling colours inspired from anxiety, self-deprecation and humour.

His art has been widely exhibited across the globe in cities like New York, London, Hong Kong, Paris, Melbourne and Derby. They’ve been featured in numerous magazines, The Guardian, Creative Review, Design Week, X-Funs, DPI Magazine, IdN, ROJO, Graphic, ModArt, Pictoplasma, Dot Dot Dash, Full Vinyl, 300% Cotton, Computer Arts, The Fundamentals of Illustration and This Is A Magazine. Jon Burgerman conducts student tutorials and lectures at British Universities and he’s also presented his work at the prestigious Pictoplasma Character Design Conference in Berlin (2006) where he conducted a ‘doodling’ workshop for the audience.

His wacky characters have adorned bags, books, belts, snowboards, skateboards, cushion, mugs and lots more.

His list of achievement is very impressive with his recent being the D&AD Silver award nomination for his work for Levi’s and has worked on big projects for many high profile organisations. Some of these include: The Science Museum (UK), The BBC (UK), SONY (Worldwide), KidRobot (Worldwide), The Sydney Morning Herald Newspaper (Australia), MTV (Worldwide), Pepsi (USA), Coca-Cola (Worldwide), 55DSL (UK), Gortex (Europe), Crown Creative Inc. (Japan), NookArt (Australia), Snickers (UK), Miss Sixty (Italy), Rip Curl (Worldwide) and Symbian (Worldwide). He also designed a special sick bag for Virgin Atlantic flights.

If you went along to the event send me your photos so they can be added here shortly.
Super big thanks to the wonder folk at the Butter Factory for getting me over to Singapore and finding vegetarian resturants for me to dine at (but then eating lots of animals themselves, which was naughty).

Cool, Hi Mr Jon Burgerman,
I am from Singapore and i knew abt your coming to my country to doddle. Hope to see you there. What time would u start doodling? Would like to learn a bit of “tricks” from you.

ps: Wouldn’t u be tired from doodling from 3pm to 10pm? (woah, so long hours)

I’ve just moved from Singapore to London 2 months ago and being a fan I remember gloating to my Singaporean friends that I’m going to be “close” to you and your works but now they’re the ones having the last laugh since they’ll be the ones getting up close and personal with you. SOB!

If you’re reading this, ask your manager people to bring you to some of these really good vegetarian places in Singapore:

-Lingzhi at Liat Towers (best mock deep fried chicken)
-LingZhi Vegetarian at
7-10 Amoy Street, #01-01, Far East Square (for steamboat->like soup fondue)
-Original Sin at Chip Bee Gardens (italian style)
-Greenland Vegetarian at Upper Serangoon Road, Peng Nam Centre (chinese food and must book beforehand)

There’s more here: http://www.makantime.com/indexadvice.html

Last but not least...ask them if they can bring you to try some really good bean curd (Selegie Soya Bean) and make sure you order some deep fried fritters to go with it. ;-p

You’re gonna have a great time in Singapore. Lucky you and definitely lucky my friends too. *sulk* :o)

Have fun Jon! :D Lets hope you ordered the right plane food. Remember to horde all the free malteasers. Right at the back of the plane. Just don’t take too many as customs might get suspicious.
